Welcome to the Team! Introducing Nick Booth

This week we’d like to introduce you to Nick Booth, the newest member of the Headway Team. Nick isn’t from a recruitment background, and has a range of skills and experiences that we thought made him the perfect fit for our team. 

Here we have a quick chat with Nick to find out more about his role and what he likes most about working for Headway (apart from awesome colleagues, of course). 

You’re not from a traditional recruitment background. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you did before you joined Headway.

I’ve had a variety of different roles – particularly when I was younger. While at school and university, I did everything from working at McDonalds to working in an old people’s home. After leaving Uni, I was focused on settling into a career, and I worked for HSBC for 5 years. I worked my way up from Customer Service Associate to a Team Leader. I left looking for a new challenge and took a job at Phones4u where I started as a Deputy Manager and worked my way up to being a Branch Manager. I even managed my own store in Harrogate. Following this I took a role at Barclays and worked as a Complaints Manager for 5 years before taking on my new position at Headway. 

That’s quite a journey! What brought you into the recruitment industry?

Moving into the recruitment industry is something I’ve always considered. I thought combining my sales and people and sales skills into one role would be a good fit for me. It also seemed to be an environment I could thrive in and enjoy. I wanted something that was going to be a bit different and challenge me at the same time. 

How are you enjoying life at Headway Recruitment?

Im really enjoying it! The team has been very welcoming and the role has met my expectations exactly! There are never two days the same and you have to be constantly aware of what is going on and think on your feet. I really enjoy the whole journey. From taking on a new role and meeting the client in person, to meeting the candidates and seeing them achieve success. It’s a journey you can’t help but go on with the candidates, and you really create a bond as they go through the hiring stages. 

What type of recruitment do you specialise in? 

I currently work on the temp desk so I manage the current temps as well as deal with any new temp roles that come in. It’s my job to ensure they’re filled with the best people possible. 

What would you say is the biggest challenge facing the industry at the moment?

There’s a lot of stigma around recruitment agencies and consultants. There’s an opinion that they don’t care, send the wrong people and are expensive. I have to say that Headway seem to do things differently, and I’m proud of the way that Headway conducts its business

What’s the best thing about working for Headway?

For me, it’s most definitely meeting people and helping them find the right role. Sometimes, it’s about helping someone who has perhaps never been given a chance before, but with guidance and coaching we help them find a role they’ll be happy in. On the other side of things, when we have a higher spec role, its great to see candidates you’ve invested time and effort in get their dream job!
